Inauguration of Information and Counseling Center to Combat Human Trafficking in Birgunj

Birgunj, Nepal — In a significant step toward combating human trafficking, Jyoti Community Development Service Nepal, Parsa Branch has officially inaugurated an Information and Counseling Center aimed at preventing and reducing human trafficking in the region.


The center, strategically established near the Nepal–India border in Ward No. 16 of Birgunj Metropolitan City, directly in front of the Customs Office, was inaugurated on March 18, 2026 (Wednesday). This location is considered highly sensitive due to its proximity to the international border which makes it a crucial point for awareness and intervention efforts.


The inauguration program was conducted under the chief guestship of Mr. Parshuram Chaurasiya, Ward Chairperson of Ward No. 16, Birgunj Metropolitan City. The event was chaired by Mr. Rajan Sunar, Founder and President of Jyoti Community Development Service Nepal.


The program was also graced by several distinguished guests, including:

  • Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raju Karki from the District Police Office, Parsa
  • DSP Bikash Adhikari from the Armed Police Force Nepal (Customs Security Unit)
  • Inspector Bikram Subedi from the Ward Police Office, Birta

Also, Mrs. Reena Srivastava, Chairperson of the Parsa District Committee, and Mr. Vijay Paswan, Vice-Chairperson, were present. The program was skillfully hosted by Mr. Niraj Acharya, Secretary of the Parsa Branch.


Speaking at the event, Chairperson Rajan Sunar emphasized that controlling a grave crime like human trafficking requires strong collaboration among all stakeholders. He highlighted that the establishment of this Information and Counseling Center marks a vital milestone in prevention efforts.


He expressed confidence that the center will provide timely awareness to at-risk communities, offer counseling and guidance, and deliver immediate support to vulnerable individuals


He further stressed the importance of coordination with local governments, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to make the campaign more effective.


Chief Guest Parshuram Chaurasiya reaffirmed the full support of the local government in the fight against human trafficking. He noted that such centers play a crucial role in minimizing risks within society.


He emphasized the need for increased public awareness, responsible action from all sectors, and protection and support for victims. He also assured continued coordination and cooperation from the ward office to strengthen these efforts.


Addressing the program, DSP Raju Karki highlighted that human trafficking and illegal transportation are serious crimes that cannot be controlled by the police alone. He stressed the need for active collaboration between communities, local authorities, and organizations.


Given that Parsa is a border district, he pointed out its heightened vulnerability to trafficking activities. He expressed confidence that the newly established center will play a critical role in collecting timely information, raising awareness, and supporting victims. He also urged the public to immediately report any suspicion or information related to human trafficking to the police, reaffirming the commitment of the District Police Office, Parsa, to combat such crimes.

The establishment of this Information and Counseling Center represents a proactive and collaborative effort to address human trafficking at the grassroots level. The initiative by Jyoti Community Development Service Nepal has been widely appreciated, with strong commitments from local authorities and security agencies to continue working together in the future.


This center stands as a beacon of hope for vulnerable communities, aiming to create a safer, more informed, and more resilient society.
